Genre Study

Horror is a very popular category in genre, and always has been for a while. A lot of horror films consist of abandoned, lonely places. But, almost every horror film has a dark, eerie presence to it. Horror films tend to have a suspenseful pace to create fear within them. Horror genre conventions include isolated or unsettling settings, flawed protagonists, and a menacing villain, along with cinematic techniques like low-key lighting, unsettling camera angles, and sound design to create suspense and fear
These films are usually marketed towards young adults or teenagers (15-25). These films are brought to the specific audience usually through social media, and are presented in a suspenseful atmosphere.
The exorcist is a huge example of what the horror genre is. The Exorcist goes beyond typical scares by exploring deep themes like the struggle between science and faith, innocence corrupted, and the exploitation of fears. It has a dark, suspenseful, and vulnerable setting, like most horror films.

Another great example of horror is The Shining. The shining incorporates ghostly apparitions and hallucinations, and the psychological unraveling of the main character. It has many elements to bring that sense of horror.
